One Night Stanzas is a smart little literary site straight out of Scotland which is currently featuring a couple of my twitter poems under the monthly Poet’s Corner. SOME THOUGHTS ON THE WEEKEND STIRRED UP LARGELY BY CD RELEASE PARTY FOR “ALLUVIAL FAN” is the title of my featured poems,a title that rambles on and on to pretty much say it all. The Precious Fathers, a Vancouver four piece, released Alluvial Fan this past June and inspired me to write some words under the influence of their sounds. (Inside scoop: I once acted with the PF’s drummer in a short film called Henry Dobbins.)

Yeah, music can be a great catalyst to creative writing. Today’s poems over at twitter have been written under the influence of the Animal Collective, the ultimate deliverers of feel good music for good freaks. I’ve been listening to nothing but Animal Collective over the past two days and it’s resulted in today’s output:

that pastoral choral glitch grows in the corner of my eye,
blightingly blurs rainbows to rotten ribbons
(and birds as flies)
but so spectral

rainbows riot in smile,
her braces dance by disco-ball
flash
thrown into campfire to tune of
Animal Collective’s Summer Clothes
(alsoonfire)

tune touches upon rototilled heart-beats broken up
above ground to resemble pot-shards of pink moon
from behind clouds turning into something

Writing Advice: Need some inspiration? Put your favorite song on repeat and write out the impressions, feelings or thoughts that each play brings. How does each subsequent replay change your perception of the song? Your perception of the words? Write it out. Write out of it. W.r.i.t.e.
